Don Mills workshop - April 27 2015 - pic22

Over the spring of 2015, STEPS engaged artistic facilitator Les Luxemburger to produce public art in collaboration with students from Don Mills Middle School, to create a cultural landmark within the school’s outdoor garden.

This new mixed-media work – which includes a combination of mural and mosaic – used salvaged material found in the area in order to raise awareness about urban environmental issues among the school community.

This installation evolved from the facilitation of STEPS’ Emerging ARTivist Program, and is an example of the innovative ways in which we can collaborate with school and community groups to craft unique projects that reflect an organization’s student, member, or client base.

The project was supported by the Toronto District School Board, the Ontario Arts Council, and the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
